Police Firearms Amnesty
Sunday 15 September
The Arms (Prohibited Firearms, Magazines, and Parts) Amendment Bill seeks to amend the Arms Act 1983. It aims to tighten gun control to increase the safety and security of New Zealanders.
The bill recognises the harm that results from the misuse of semi-automatic firearms. To remove these sorts of firearms from circulation and use by the general population in New Zealand, the bill proposes banning semi-automatic firearms, magazines, and parts that can be used to assemble prohibited (banned) firearms.
Police prefer that owners do not hand in firearms at Police stations and instead attend a local collection event.
