BLACKCAPS v India 2nd T20
Sunday 26 January 2020, 8pm
You may have noticed that New Zealand Cricket’s recent 2019/2020 season announcement includes an unconfirmed fixture on 26 January at Eden Park. This match is scheduled to align with India’s Republic Day and the Sunday of Auckland Anniversary weekend, with Monday being a public holiday. It is subject to resource consent as Eden Park currently cannot hold night-time fixtures on a Sunday. An estimated 100,000 cricket fans missed out on international cricket in Auckland this year due to New Zealand Cricket’s requirements to align with Indian broadcast times.
Should the resource consent application be approved, we intend to create a celebration of Indian sport, culture and cuisine around the fixture.
With seven international matches scheduled at Eden Park featuring the BLACKCAPS and WHITE FERNS, the 2019/2020 season promises to be one of our biggest summers of cricket in recent history. Eden Park's international reputation and fan-friendly boundaries make for one of the best T20 cricket atmospheres in the world. With a capacity surpassing 40,000, we look forward to welcoming as many fans as possible through the gates, including those from Auckland's thriving Indian community, to create a real festival of cricket atmosphere.
Every match creates up to 3,000 jobs for event day staff across several departments, supports local businesses and micro-tourism opportunities for the Albert-Eden-Roskill Ward, along with enjoyment for local residents.
Applications have now closed.
Many thanks from the team at Eden Park.
