PLAN YOUR DEPARTURE
These messages were the key points in a successful communications campaign that the Eden Park Trust Board instigated for the 2005 Lions Series and Bledisloe Cup.
The campaign’s success is illustrated by the fact that all patrons were seated before kick-off for the Bledisloe Cup. A feat never before achieved.
A significant contribution to this achievement was the increase in the use of public transport.
Veolia “Britomart Shuttle” moved over 7,500 rail patrons to/from each Lions match and approaching 5,000 for the Bledisloe Cup. This represents a substantial increase over the previous best of 2,000.
Similarly the special Stagecoach shuttle buses from the CBD and North Shore increased bus patronage.
The Free Eden Park Shuttle Bus had a successful debut for the Lions matches and was repeated for the Bledisloe.
Many of the components of the successful traffic management for the big matches were used for the Super 14 and will be in place for Air NZ (NPC) rugby matches and for key cricket matches.
During the 2006 Super 14 there continued to be an increase in the use of public transport and the free shuttle bus.
Eden Park has recently upgraded the traffic management plan. A new variable TMP now sees variable controls for different crowd sizes
Not all elements will be used for every game but the key focus will remain.
Parking Restriction Policy
To manage parking on match days, Eden Park has implemented the variable traffic management plan. This plan allows for various levels of restricted parking in the streets surrounding Eden Park.
Eden Park urges all patrons to plan how they can best arrive at the Park.
We recommend that you check for updates on this website and look for our match advertisements in the NZ Herald and on Radio Network stations.
Awareness of the changes in traffic management will ensure that all the Park’s stakeholders enjoy the sporting events at Eden Park.
Arrive Early
Gates will open a minimum of 2 hours before the match starts
Big screen entertainment and refreshments will be available from gate opening.
Identify your Ground Access
For the South Stand access from Reimers Ave, the ASB Stand from Walters Road, the Terraces and Panasonic Stand from Cricket Ave, and the West Stand from Reimers Ave or Walters Rd.
Private Cars
Car Pool
The “Restricted Traffic Area” concept introduced for big matches will continue to be used as it successfully encouraged private cars to park well away from Eden Park.
Whilst the restrictions will vary from match to match patrons should be aware of the following;
The route of the Free Eden Park Shuttle Bus along Sandringham, Balmoral, Mt Eden and New North Roads has been established so that patrons can park further to the east avoiding the congested Dominion Rd area.
No public parking is available within the restricted area which will be subject to parking restrictions ranging from no-stopping zones and residents only parking to possible road closures.
Residents only parking applies to most streets within the area bounded by New North Rd, Morningside Drive, Paice Ave, and Dominion Rd.
Parking controls will be in place up to six hours before the game.
The area immediately surrounding the Park ( Walters Rd, Cricket Ave, and Reimers Ave) will be a “Controlled Zone” with access limited to residents, Eden Park permit holders, and authorized public transport.
Avoid all roads near the ground, especially Sandringham Road and the roads bordering Eden Park as there will be large numbers of pedestrians on these roads.
Arrange to meet outside the restricted area as no drop off or pick ups will be permitted close to the Park.
Free Eden Park Shuttle Bus
For matches with anticipated large crowds Eden Park will sponsor a free shuttle bus.
The Free Eden Park Shuttle Bus service will see specially marked Stagecoach buses at regular intervals using existing bus stops in a left hand loop from Walters Road bus stop around Sandringham, Balmoral, Mt. Eden, and New North Roads.
Check Eden Park’s match advertising and www.maxx.co.nz to confirm shuttle bus schedules.
Use A Taxi
Take A Train
Special train services will operate from all stations on the Veolia network to Kingsland Station next to Eden Park.
From the CBD use Britomart Station.
Allow a minimum of 45 minutes from Britomart to your seat and longer closer to match start.
Take A Bus
Regular Stagecoach services from the CBD at Victoria St East.
Use A Ferry
Regular Ferry services link with trains from Britomart.
Plan Your Departure
Be prepared to take your time.
Walters Rd , Cricket, Belmont, and Reimers Ave will be closed.
Sandringham Rd may be closed to allow pedestrian access to Kingsland Station.
Control of the “restricted traffic area” will give priority to pedestrian traffic leaving Eden Park.
There will be plenty of trains and buses; including the Free Eden Park shuttle bus.
Taxis will be available after the pedestrian crowd had dispersed from ranks on Onslow Rd to the north and
Sandringham Rd to the South.
Taxis will also be available further away such as outside Foodtown on Valley Rd.
